In the world of treatment, there are a lot of manual treatments. One of them is massage. But there are several different types of massages with different purposes and effects.
In this blog, we will briefly explain the three most well-known forms and hope that it will help you, dear reader, to gain a better understanding of what to choose the next time you need to be kneaded.
Physiotherapy/deep massage
Physiotherapy or deep massage is where the muscles are massaged in depth from their origin to their attachment point.
This type of massage focuses on getting muscles, tendons and thereby joints to function as optimally as possible here and now.
The deep pressure helps activate the calming part of the nervous system, thereby releasing tension, increasing blood flow to muscles and tissues, and increasing the excretion of accumulated waste products. In this way, the balance in the muscles is restored, so you become pain-free and generally feel better.
If you suffer from tension headaches or otherwise feel that your body is out of balance, or your body feels tense, perhaps due to sedentary work, mental stress or strain on the body and it needs to release tension, physiotherapy massage is a good option for treatment.
Sports massage
Sports massage is primarily aimed at individuals who use their bodies a lot - especially in connection with sports or physical activity.
During training or high loads, many waste products accumulate and thereby tension and stress in muscles and tissues, which can cause sore muscles and overtraining can lead to injury.
Sports massage helps to loosen tense muscles, relieve pain and swelling and can be part of injury prevention. It works to remove myoses and waste products in the muscles and provides better flow in the lymphatic system and blood vessels.
You may want to consider sports massage when your muscles are overworked and tense, e.g. during exercise. Maybe your physical performance doesn't feel at the same level as usual? It could be that you need to loosen up a bit.
Relaxation massage
Relaxation massage is primarily a time dedicated to pampering the body and mind. It is a relaxing and unwinding form of massage, where the whole or parts of the body are calmly massaged through.
The massage is performed with long, gentle strokes, which are very relaxing, de-stressing and calming. The massage releases mild tension and increases blood circulation.
At Optimus Physiotherapy & P-DTR we can offer all three types of massage. We are located in Åbyhøj, Aarhus with free parking and easy access by public transport.
